Russia Expands Grain Export Routes Amid Black Sea Disruptions

Russia is diversifying its grain export routes due to disruptions in the Black Sea region. The country's Agriculture Minister, Oksana Lut, stated that millions of tons of Russian grain are being shipped through the Baltic and Caspian seas, as well as through Kazakhstan.

The Far Eastern route, which has historically been used for limited grain exports, is also being developed by Russia. Talks with China are underway to explore the possibility of transiting grain through Chinese territory for onward sales to Southeast Asia.

Russia's high dependence on the Black Sea, which accounts for over 70% of its grain shipments, has led to a need to diversify export routes. However, alternative routes also face risks, including Latvia's consideration of imposing a 300% duty on Russian and Belarusian grain.
