Russia Overtakes Kazakhstan as Kyrgyzstan's Top Wheat Supplier

Russia has surged ahead as Kyrgyzstan's largest wheat supplier in 2026, surpassing Kazakhstan after a significant increase in exports. According to statistical data, Russia's wheat shipments to Kyrgyzstan rose 4.5-fold from January through May, reaching 178,968 tonnes worth $39 million.

This is up from just 39,369 tonnes valued at over $8 million at the start of the year, representing a substantial jump in trade between the two countries. Russia now accounts for 76.4 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total wheat imports, totaling 234,098 tonnes.

Kazakhstan, previously the leading supplier, currently ranks second, having exported 55,131 tonnes worth $12.6 million. The overall value of Russian exports to Kyrgyzstan from January through May amounts to $1.39 billion.
