Russia Strikes Oleina Oil Plant Days After US Senator's Visit
A Russian drone strike on September 10 hit the Oleina oil production plant in Dnipro, Ukraine, owned by American corporation Bunge. The attack occurred just days after US Senator Richard Blumenthal visited the facility, calling for greater international attention to be drawn to attacks on American property.
According to local officials, a fire broke out near the damaged plant, engulfing 12 passenger cars and two minibuses. Mayor Borys Filatov criticized the official rhetoric about abstract 'food industry enterprises,' emphasizing that the Oleina plant is owned by an American company.
The attack was not the first on the Oleina plant, a drone strike on January 5 caused significant damage, with 300 metric tons of sunflower oil spilling onto city roads. Ukrainian authorities have stated that these attacks are deliberate, not accidental.
