Russia-Ukraine Conflict Drives Wheat Prices to Two-Year High
Global grain markets are experiencing a surge in prices due to escalating tensions and deteriorating weather conditions. Wheat futures have risen to their highest level in two years on the Chicago and Paris exchanges, with benchmark Chicago wheat futures increasing by 2.2%.
The escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war is disrupting logistics during the peak harvest period, affecting over one-quarter of global wheat exports and around 10% of global corn exports.
According to Matt Darragh from Kpler, recent shipping disruptions and threats to key ports have complicated Russian grain exports. The extent to which lost export volumes can be recovered will depend on how long the current logistical restrictions remain in place.
