Russian Attacks Strain Ukraine's Foreign Currency Sources

Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's agricultural facilities have strained the country's foreign currency sources. According to Reuters, Russia attacked a Bunge facility in Dnipro, eastern Ukraine, on September 10th. The attack killed two people and injured five others.

The facility targeted is one of Ukraine's top oilseed processing facilities, capable of handling 1,600 tons of oilseeds per day. Ukraine is the world's largest exporter of sunflower oil, with annual exports ranging from 5 million to 6 million tons.

This is not an isolated incident; Russia has attacked Ukraine's oilseed refining facilities and vegetable oil terminals at least four times in the past year and a half. The attacks have hindered Ukraine's grain exports, which account for more than half of its foreign currency income.
