Russian Gas Facility Fire Footage Misidentified as Iranian Attack
A video circulating on social media claiming to show fires at an Iranian oil facility after an alleged attack has been found to be misleading. Misbar's team investigated the claim and discovered that the footage was actually filmed in Russia.
The video, which showed a fire at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) in Svobodny, was shared on social media accounts on August 25. Additional footage of the same fire was circulated, matching the scenes in the original video.
Satellite imagery captured on August 27 showed signs of the fire at the complex, which is one of the world's largest producers of polyethylene and polypropylene. The administration of the complex announced that the fire had been extinguished by August 26, with emergency recovery and restoration work beginning afterwards.
