Russian Grain Producers on Brink of Bankruptcy Amid War-Related Disruptions
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has left grain producers in Russia on the verge of bankruptcy. Fuel shortages, export restrictions, and diesel fuel costs have made it difficult for farmers to harvest and transport their crops.
Agricultural production costs have increased sharply due to higher fuel prices. Meanwhile, domestic grain prices have fallen to record lows as Ukrainian attacks disrupt maritime logistics in the Black and Azov seas.
Farmers are now selling their grains at prices as low as half the cost of production. Many farmers are deciding to leave agriculture altogether, while others plan to sow less this season.
