Russia's Grain Exports Disrupted by Ukraine's Long-Range Strikes
Ukraine's long-range strikes on logistics hubs in Russia have disrupted grain exports from the country, according to Oleh Ivashchenko, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The strikes are part of a broader effort by Ukraine's Defense Forces to reduce Russia's ability to produce weapons and supply its troops.
Ivashchenko noted that Russia needs to export around 40 million tons of grain from this year's harvest by sea, which requires approximately 30 vessels every day. However, with the strikes on logistics hubs, this process has become increasingly difficult for Russia.
According to Ivashchenko, Russia produces around 130 million tons of grain and retains approximately 80 million tons for domestic needs, while the remainder is exported. The disruption in grain exports will likely have a significant impact on the Russian economy, particularly with regards to labor shortages, federal budget deficits, and banking system issues.
