Russia's Grain Exports Plunge Amid Tense Maritime Situation

Grain exports from Russia plummeted nearly 40% in July this year compared to last year, according to recent data. In July 2025, 2,026,000 tons of main types of grain crops were exported from Russia, down significantly from 3,248,000 tons in July 2024.

The decline was largely attributed to the tense situation in the Azov-Black Sea region, leading to a sharp decrease in shipments. Daily cargo transportation decreased by nearly 37% year-over-year, with wheat shipments falling to 57,400 tons from 69,700 tons in July last year.

Elena Tyurina, Director of the Analytical Department at the Russian Grain Union, pointed out that grain exports suffered greatly during the third ten days of the month. Shipments dropped by 61.3% compared to the same period in 2024, with wheat shipments decreasing by a substantial 55.5%.
