Russian attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure and civilian fleet have caused significant disruptions to grain exports. Ship traffic to Ukraine's seaports was suspended on July 22 due to Russian attacks, according to Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine's minister of agrarian policy and food.

July saw a sharp escalation in strikes on Ukraine's port infrastructure and civilian fleet, with Russia carrying out 124 attacks in total. The attacks targeted ships in port, vessels at sea, and port infrastructure, including rail lines and bridges.

The suspension of grain exports has significant economic implications for Ukraine. More than 90% of the country's grain exports move through its seaports, which currently cannot receive foreign vessels for loading. This has resulted in higher logistics expenses, with shipping grain from Ukraine now costing an additional $50 per metric ton.

The port blockade has also pushed domestic wheat prices down to 3,000 hryvnias per metric ton, compared with production costs of 5,000 hryvnias per metric ton. Rail deliveries of grain to Odesa Oblast ports have plummeted by 84.3% in August from the same period in July.
