Russia's Railway Blitz Threatens Global Food Security

Russian forces have escalated their attacks on Ukrainian civilian trains, causing widespread destruction and disrupting global grain exports.

The targeting of rail infrastructure has resulted in over 430 civilian deaths and 2,000 injuries in Ukraine since July 2026.

Ukraine's rail network is critical for both domestic transportation and international trade, with the country being one of the world's top exporters of wheat, corn, and sunflower oil.

The destruction of these exports threatens food security and drives up prices for importing nations such as Kenya, which relies heavily on Eastern European grain.
