Russia's Wheat Export Market Shrinks Amid Global Economic Shifts
Russia's wheat export market has seen a significant decline in recent months, according to Elena Tyurina, director of the analytical department of the Russian Grain Union. In August 2026, Russia had only 16 countries purchasing its wheat, down from 43 in August 2025.
The total volume of grain exports fell by 3.5 times compared to the same period last year, with wheat shipments declining 3.8-fold and barley exports falling threefold. Egypt remained the largest buyer of Russian wheat, importing 450,000 tonnes, although its imports decreased by 2.2 times.
Several new destinations emerged in August, including Venezuela, which purchased 84,000 tonnes of Russian wheat, Indonesia, which imported 66,000 tonnes, and Iran, which received 26,500 tonnes.
