S&P 500 Slips 0.58% Amid Oil Price Surge and Hawkish Fed Bets

The S&P 500 index closed at 7,673.52 on Tuesday, September 8th, down 45.08 points or 0.58% from Friday's close of 7,718.60.

This decline marks the second consecutive losing session for the index, following a 0.38% drop on Friday.

The market opened at 7,717.81 but was unable to hold that level as it slid steadily throughout the day to a low of 7,666.99 before recovering modestly into the close.

The pullback leaves the S&P 500 roughly 1.8% below its 52-week high of 7,816.70 and firmly above its 52-week low of 6,316.91.
