Sabah's LNG Stake: A Step Forward, But Much Work Remains
The Borneo's Plight in Malaysia Foundation (BoPiMaFo) has welcomed Sabah's acquisition of a 40% interest in a Petronas floating liquefied natural gas project.
However, the foundation cautions that this does not mean Sabah is receiving 40% of the oil and gas produced from its territory or 40% of Petronas's petroleum revenue derived from Sabah.
The proposed transaction concerns a 40% commercial interest in one floating LNG project, and BoPiMaFo emphasizes that a large percentage does not automatically mean a large return.
Sabah must disclose several key details about the acquisition, including the total acquisition price, financing structure, valuation of the facility, historical revenue, operating costs, profits, and dividend payments.
