Saipem Wins $32 Million Preliminary Work Contract for Rovuma LNG Project

Saipem S.p.A., part of a joint venture known as SMDC, has secured a preliminary work contract worth $32 million for the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique. The deal was signed with ExxonMobil Moçambique, on behalf of the Area 4 partners, including ENH, CNPC, ENI, KOGAS, and XRG.

The Letter of Intent concerns limited preliminary engineering and procurement activities aimed at advancing project definition and execution planning. This new milestone follows a front-end engineering design contract awarded to SMDC in August 2024.

The Rovuma LNG Project involves the development of an onshore natural gas liquefaction plant on the Afungi Peninsula, which will comprise two LNG trains with 12 modular liquefaction modules. The expected overall production capacity is approximately 18.6 million tonnes of LNG per year.
