The silver anklet manufacturing industry in Salem district has been severely impacted by volatile silver prices. Over 1,000 units provide employment to more than 50,000 workers.

In January, the price of silver bullion surged from ₹3.18 lakh per kg to ₹4.05 lakh by the last week of the same month. It dropped to ₹2.30 lakh per kg in June and rose to ₹2.60 lakh per kg in July.

Silver anklet manufacturers are struggling with losses due to reduced orders. Workers are receiving jobs only two to three times a week, leading many to take up other employment opportunities.
