Samsung Heavy Industries Co., a major South Korean shipbuilder, has secured orders worth $1.2 billion for six vessels, including four large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and two crude oil tankers.

The new contracts push Samsung Heavy's commercial shipbuilding order intake above last year's full-year total of $7.1 billion, reaching $7.3 billion this year so far.

The strong demand for LNG carriers has driven market recovery, with first-half LNG carrier orders nearly equal to the total volume recorded during all of last year, reflecting continued investment in long-distance gas transportation and energy security projects.
