Sancti Spíritus Oil Prices Skyrocket Amid Price Cap Removal
In a shocking turn of events, the price of vegetable oil in Sancti Spíritus skyrocketed from 2,000 to 3,000 pesos in under 24 hours. This drastic increase, reported by journalist Yosdany Morejón Ortega with Radio Sancti Spíritus, has left residents reeling.
The rapid price surge is largely attributed to the removal of price caps on imported edible oils following Resolution 150/2026. Additionally, the unavailability of oil in the ration book has forced Cubans to rely on the informal market, driving up costs.
Cubans are struggling to adjust their budgets as essential goods like oil become increasingly unaffordable. Morejón lamented that 'it feels like ages have passed since' prices were lower, highlighting the ongoing uncertainty and vulnerability among residents.
