Santos Ditches Domestic Gas for Exports at Gladstone LNG Plant
Australia's energy company Santos has announced that it will stop taking gas from the domestic market for export at its Gladstone LNG plant.
The move comes as the federal government prepares to implement a domestic gas reservation scheme, which requires LNG producers to sell 20% of their exports to the domestic market.
Santos' chief executive Kevin Gallagher said that the company's project will 'not contract any third-party gas going forward', and instead meet its commitments through other means.
Gallagher also suggested changing the reservation scheme to require exporters to offer gas to the domestic market on commercial terms, rather than a 'must-sell' requirement.
