Saudi Arabia is stepping up its military preparations amid a renewed wave of attacks by Yemen's Houthi movement, raising concerns that tensions between the two sides could escalate into a broader conflict.

The Houthis have claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Saudi-linked shipping and infrastructure in and around the Red Sea, including an attack on August 24 near the port city of Yanbu. The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said they had attacked a vessel at the port, while the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu.

The attacks have put pressure on Riyadh to protect its vital maritime and energy interests, with the Red Sea serving as a major outlet for Saudi oil exports. The Houthi blockade has also targeted Saudi-linked vessels in the area, adding to concerns over the security of the region's key trade routes.
