Saudi Arabia Builds Tower Taller Than Burj Khalifa

The Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia is on track to become the world's first skyscraper over one kilometer tall, surpassing the current record holder, the 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Construction began in 2013 but was suspended several times, raising doubts about its completion. However, work resumed in full in 2025 and has since increased significantly, with a projected completion date of 2028.

The tower will have 160 floors, with 106 already completed, and will stand at a height of over one kilometer once finished. The building's total usable floor area will be approximately 530,000 square meters, featuring state-of-the-art air conditioning systems and an energy-efficient facade adapted to the region's hot climate.

One of the project's designers is American architect Adrian Smith, who also contributed to the design of the Burj Khalifa. The Jeddah Tower is a flagship project of Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying the country's economy and reducing its dependence on oil revenues through tourism development.
