Saudi Arabia Condemns Iranian Attack on Oil Tanker
The Strait of Hormuz has become a hotspot for tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The conflict escalated after an Iranian attack on the Bahri-owned oil tanker Sidr, which resulted in the deaths of two Filipino sailors.
The incident occurred while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, according to Bahri. The company stated that it was coordinating with relevant authorities and maritime industry stakeholders while continuing to monitor developments.
Saudi Arabia condemned the attack, urging de-escalation under international law. Kuwait and Qatar also joined in, condemning the incident as a 'flagrant violation of the rules of international law and freedom of maritime navigation.'
The Strait of Hormuz has seen a significant drop in crossings with only five vessels transiting on Tuesday compared to 25 the previous Thursday, according to The National. Thousands of seafarers continue to live and work under conditions of heightened risk and uncertainty.
