Saudi Arabia Confronts Limited Options as Huthi Rebels Escalate Yemen Conflict
The conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Huthi rebels in Yemen has escalated, leaving Riyadh with few options to respond. The Iran-backed Huthis have made significant gains, capturing strategic locations such as Perim Island and Mocha port town.
The capture of these areas puts pressure on the Bab al-Mandeb strait, a key energy route, amplifying concerns about Saudi Arabia's security. Riyadh has been making greater use of the East-West pipeline since the Iran war closed the Strait of Hormuz, rerouting 5 million barrels of oil per day.
Nasr al-Din Amer, head of the Huthi-run state news agency Saba, said the group would continue 'pressuring' Saudi Arabia until they 'break the siege unjustly imposed by the Saudi enemy for 12 years.'
