Saudi Arabia Foils Second Consecutive Day of Drone Attacks on Oil Facilities
Saudi Arabia has intercepted and destroyed drones launched from Iraq at its oil facilities in the Eastern Province for the second consecutive day, according to the defence ministry. The attacks are believed to have originated from Iraqi territory and were carried out by Iran-backed terrorist militias.
The drone attacks on July 28 follow similar incidents on July 27, when drones launched from Iraq targeted oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh. The Saudi foreign ministry condemned that attack and called on the Iraqi government to prevent its territory from being used as a launchpad against the kingdom.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered an investigation into the incidents, stating that his country would not allow its territory to be used to launch attacks on neighbouring states. However, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella grouping of Iran-aligned militias, claimed that Riyadh had fabricated the allegations.
