Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones Targeting Oil Facilities Launched by Iranian-Backed Militias
Saudi Arabia's defense ministry announced that it intercepted multiple drones targeting its eastern oil facilities, which were launched by Iran-controlled Shiite militia forces in Iraq. The Saudi statement said these 'terrorist attempts' were executed from Iraqi territory and carried out by Iranian-affiliated militias.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned the drone attacks as 'reprehensible,' calling on the Iraqi government to prevent its territories from being used for such acts of aggression. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered an investigation into the incident, reaffirming his commitment to good neighborliness and preventing Iraq's territory from being used for attacks against friendly countries.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group for Iran's Shiite militia proxies, denied launching drones at Saudi Arabia. They threatened that any 'foolish Saudi action' would be met with a harsh response.
