Saudi Arabia Issues All-Clear After Emergency Alert Amid Escalating Clashes with Houthis
The Saudi civil defence authorities issued an all-clear on Thursday after an emergency alert was declared in the southwestern province of Khamis Mushait for the fourth time in 24 hours. The alert was due to clashes with Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis, which have been escalating in recent months.
The Houthis had attacked an airbase in Khamis Mushait and oil infrastructure in nearby cities, resulting in at least 73 people being wounded in four southern Saudi cities. This attack is one of the biggest on Saudi Arabia since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran in February.
Fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has increased concerns about a broader conflict after a U.N.-brokered truce in 2022 largely halted years of war.
