Saudi Arabia Launches Maritime Coalition Amid Escalating Yemen Tensions

Saudi Arabia has launched a maritime defense coalition to safeguard commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden waterways, amidst rising tensions with Yemen's Houthi rebels.

The alliance brings together thirteen countries that have finalized their participation, while fifteen others have signed a joint statement supporting its goals.

Saudi Arabia will provide the first commander for the coalition, with Pakistan expected to take on the role of deputy commander.

The launch comes as the conflict between Saudi-backed Yemeni forces and the Iran-aligned Houthis escalates, jeopardizing vital trade routes and threatening Saudi oil exports.
