Saudi Arabia is reportedly preparing to launch a major attack against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, aiming to break their grip on oil shipping in the Red Sea. The move comes as Saudi Arabia unveiled plans for a multinational maritime defense coalition, aimed at protecting international shipping and energy supply routes in the region.

According to sources, troop movements within Yemen indicate that an attack could be made against al-Bayda, a governorate in central southern Yemen which was captured by the Houthis in 2020-21. The proposed coalition, which would strengthen maritime security and safeguard freedom of navigation, has already gained support from 14 countries.

The Houthi rebels have disrupted one of the world's busiest trade corridors through their attacks on oil tankers in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia sees this as a threat to its own economic interests and is taking steps to address it.
