Saudi Arabia Spares Military Retaliation on Iraqi Drone Attacks
Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned drone attacks on its East-West oil pipeline from Iraqi territory. The attack occurred in the Riyadh and Medina regions, causing injuries to personnel and material damage. Saudi authorities suspended operations on the pipeline as a precautionary measure.
The kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it will not respond militarily at this stage, allowing the Baghdad government time to take necessary measures to prevent further attacks. This decision was made at the request of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
Riyadh emphasized its right to defend itself and its sovereignty, but chose not to retaliate for now. The pipeline has gained strategic importance since Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz in February 2026.
