Saudi Arabia Takes A Stand Against Iran's Oil Pipeline Attacks
The long-standing alliance between Saudi Arabia and the United States has been put to the test as tensions escalate in the region. In recent days, drones fired by Iran's allies in Iraq have targeted the East-West pipeline carrying Saudi oil across the country.
This attack is part of a larger strategy by Iran to block alternative routes for oil exports and stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz. The 750-mile pipeline is Saudi Arabia's only way of bypassing Tehran's control, exporting about 4.6 million barrels of oil via the Red Sea every day.
Saudi Arabia has responded with force, striking Iranian-backed Shia militias in Iraq, a move that has been described as 'retaliation' by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia.
