Saudi Arabia Takes Control of Electronic Arts in $55 Billion Acquisition Deal
Electronic Arts (EA) has completed its acquisition deal, making it fully owned by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, PIF. The company was acquired by an investor consortium consisting of PIF, Silver Lake Partners, and Affinity Partners for around $55 billion. This means that the PIF will own 93.4% of EA, while Silver Lake Partners will hold 5.5%, and Affinity Partners will have 1.1%. The acquisition was first announced in September 2025, with a deal value of approximately $55 billion.
In a statement, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that the company is entering a new chapter from a position of strength, with partners who share their vision and ambition. He emphasized that they will 'invest boldly' and accelerate innovation to build the next generation of games and experiences for hundreds of millions of players and fans.
The PIF has been investing in the gaming industry for several years, including taking stakes in companies such as Take-Two and owning other businesses like SNK. The acquisition of EA is seen as a strategic move by the PIF to increase its presence in the gaming sector and support Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's goal of reducing Saudi Arabia's reliance on oil revenue.
