Saudi Arabia Vows Retaliation Against Iran-Backed Huthis Over Civilian Attacks
Saudi Arabia has vowed to take resolute action against Iran-backed Huthi militants in Yemen, following a series of attacks that wounded at least 73 civilians and caused fires at energy facilities. The Huthi attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in several Saudi towns and cities, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran.
The conflict escalated in July with missile attacks on Saudi oil facilities and ships, marking a significant expansion of the Middle East war. Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led Coalition Forces, described the Huthi attacks as 'dangerous' and 'senseless.'
The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition has vowed to confront the Huthis' hostile approach, with the Saudi Foreign Ministry affirming its right to take necessary measures to defend its sovereignty. The conflict has drawn condemnation from regional allies, including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait.
