Saudi Authorities Warn of Potential Danger in Jazan Province

Saudi authorities have issued a warning for Jazan province along the Yemen border due to potential danger. The Saudi civil defence agency alerted residents of 'a potential danger' in the region, which has been targeted by Yemeni rebels recently.

The Houthis, backed by Iran, have repeatedly attacked energy and petroleum installations in Jazan over the past few weeks. A years-long truce between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed government in Yemen collapsed last month as fighting escalated between regional allies of the US and Iran.

A UN-backed 2022 accord had maintained a fragile peace, but its breakdown has led to increased tensions in the region. The Houthi rebels have announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia, hitting tankers in the Red Sea and the kingdom's oil infrastructure. Meanwhile, Iran is blockading the Strait of Hormuz on the other side of the Arabian Peninsula.
