Saudi Coalition Shoots Down Yemeni Missiles Targeting Oil Refineries
A Saudi-led coalition has intercepted two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen at oil refineries in Yanbu, according to Greek security sources. The missiles were targeting energy infrastructure on the Red Sea.
The intercept was carried out by a US-made Patriot air defense battery operated by Greek military personnel, who have been deployed in Saudi Arabia since 2021 under an agreement with the kingdom.
Saudi civil defense had issued warnings for Yanbu and later declared that the danger had passed. There were no immediate reports of damage to the refineries or nearby areas.
The incident comes amid a surge in tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which has led to air strikes on both sides. US President Donald Trump vowed 'major military punishment' for Tehran and its Houthi allies in Yemen after the Houthis declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia.
