Saudi Forces Strike Back at Iran-Backed Militia Targets in Iraq
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defense announced that its Armed Forces, in coordination with US CENTCOM, carried out targeted strikes against Iran-backed militia targets in Iraq. The operation was a response to attacks on the Kingdom's oil facilities, which Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed on July 27 and 28.
The ministry stated that these attacks originated from Iraqi territory and were carried out by Iran-backed militias. Saudi Arabia asserted its right to defend itself and its national assets under international law, specifically Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
The targeted strikes against militia sites in Iraq were conducted in exercise of this right to self-defense. The Saudi Ministry of Defense emphasized that the Kingdom does not seek escalation but will respond to any aggression against it.
