Saudi Forces Strike Houthi Targets Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
Saudi forces have launched airstrikes against Houthi military targets in Yemen after recent attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.
The strikes were aimed at equipment used by the Houthis to threaten commercial ships, according to Major General Turki Al-Malki, the coalition spokesperson. He called the earlier Houthi attacks 'a reckless and cowardly act.'
The Houthi rebels claimed to have hit two Saudi oil tankers earlier in the week and announced a maritime blockade against the kingdom. However, Saudi air defenses intercepted two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen.
The situation has heightened tensions in the region, with the US military also conducting airstrikes on Iran as part of its separate campaign. The US has disabled four merchant vessels that tried to run the American blockade of Iran's ports.
