Saudi-Led Coalition and Houthis Trade Airstrikes as Yemen Conflict Intensifies
The conflict in Yemen has intensified as the Saudi-led coalition and Houthi forces exchanged airstrikes on Wednesday, killing more than 500 people and displacing nearly 20,000 others. The Houthis said more than 50 Saudi-led airstrikes targeted several parts of Yemen, including Taiz and Hodeida provinces, where fierce fighting has continued between the Iran-backed rebels and Saudi-backed government forces.
Mohammed Khudairi, one of those displaced by the fighting, described it as a 'catastrophe' and said that attacks are ongoing. The conflict is unfolding alongside the broader Middle East war, which has disrupted energy supplies and shipping routes across the region. Oil prices have returned to around $100 a barrel on Wednesday.
The Houthis launched their heaviest missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia in years on Tuesday, setting fire to oil facilities and wounding 73 people, according to Saudi authorities. The Saudi-led coalition said the Houthis launched fresh attacks on southern Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, firing several ballistic missiles and drones toward Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Jizan.
