Saudi Modernism Takes Center Stage in Groundbreaking Exhibition
Artists from Saudi Arabia's early modernist movement are being celebrated in an exhibition at Ithra, showcasing their unique blend of traditional and modern styles. The show features works by four prominent artists: Ibrahim Bugis, Abdulrahman Alsoliman, Abdulhamid Albaqshi, and Khalil Hassan Khalil.
Ibrahim Bugis' 1986 oil painting 'The Bright Shore' marks a significant shift in his style, moving away from representational art towards a more abstract representation of the scene. The piece depicts fishing boats returning to shore at sunrise, with soft variations of white and blue creating a sense of motion.
Abdulrahman Alsoliman's oil painting 'Mosque Between Palms' conveys his deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia's culture and heritage. His delicate brushwork and subtlety are evident in this piece, which is characteristic of his style.
The exhibition also features works by Abdulhamid Albaqshi, who combines tradition and modernism in his oil painting 'Untitled'. The foreground resembles a traditional landscape, while the background swirls into something more surreal and impressionistic.
