Saudi Oil Facilities Under Attack from Iran-Backed Militias in Iraq
Iran-backed militias in Iraq fired drones at Saudi oil facilities for the second consecutive day, putting pressure on the kingdom, which is already dealing with a maritime blockade limiting its crude oil shipments.
The Saudi defense ministry reported that it intercepted the drones without specifying whether the facilities were damaged. Similar attacks from Iraq targeted Riyadh and the Eastern Region on Monday.
Saudi Arabia's government has called on Iraq to take necessary steps to prevent its territories from being used as a launching pad for such attacks. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia on Thursday, according to Al Arabiya.
Iraq had previously set a deadline of September 30 for surrendering weapons held outside state institutions, in an effort to curb the influence of militants within the country.
