Saudi Oil Pipeline Shut Down After Drone Attack
Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline has been temporarily shut down after being attacked by drones on Thursday, September 10. The attack occurred in the Riyadh and Madinah regions, causing injuries and damage to the facility.
The pipeline, which is approximately 1,200 km long, carries 7 million barrels of oil per day from Saudi Arabia's eastern oil fields to export terminals on the Red Sea. It provides an alternative route for exporting oil without using the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Reuters, the pipeline has been carrying about 4% to 5% of global oil supply. The attack caused concern among energy markets and has raised questions about the security of Saudi Arabia's infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia has decided not to retaliate for now after a request from Iraq's prime minister. The country has promised to support the Iraqi government's efforts to stop attacks from its territory against neighboring countries.
