Saudi Oil Pipeline Shut Down After Drone Attack from Iraq

Saudi Arabia has temporarily shut its key East-West oil pipeline after a drone attack launched from Iraq. The pipeline, which spans over 1,200km (745 miles), allows Saudi Arabia to bypass the Strait of Hormuz and carries around 4% to 5% of global oil supply.

The attack originated from Maysan province in Iraq, which borders Iran, according to Iraqi authorities who have launched an investigation. The drone strike has caused damage and injuries, although details are still being assessed.

Saudi Arabia has not retaliated against Iraq, following a request from Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to avoid escalating tensions. However, Riyadh has reserved the right to take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security.
