Saudi Oil Pipeline Shut Down Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict
Saudi Arabia has temporarily shut down its East-West oil pipeline after it came under attack from aerial drones. The 1,200-kilometre-long pipeline, which carries up to 5 million barrels of crude oil per day, is a vital conduit for the world's largest oil exporter.
The attack, which originated in Iraq, where Iranian-backed militias operate, has raised concerns about global supply and sent oil prices above $100 per barrel. The pipeline was closed as a precautionary measure to prevent further damage or disruptions.
Saudi Arabia has asked the US for military help with the Houthis, who have been escalating their attacks on Saudi targets in recent days. The Houthi rebels have tightened their grip on Yemen and seized control of the strategic island of Perim at the mouth of the Red Sea.
