Saudi Oil Tankers Attacked in Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Tensions
Two supertankers carrying Saudi oil were struck by unknown projectiles within minutes of each other in the Strait of Hormuz. The tankers, Sidr and Senegal Prosperity, loaded 2 million barrels of crude at the Juaymah terminal last week.
The attacks occurred while the ships were transiting outbound through the strait, which is a critical waterway for global oil supplies. Iranian and US blockades have sharply curbed energy exports from the Gulf as both sides try to assert their authority over the waterway.
Oil prices gained on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump threatened further strikes against Iran. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported three projectiles striking a tanker in the same location, but all crew members were reported safe.
