Saudi Oil Tankers Attacked in Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Tensions
Two oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, according to shipping intelligence firms Marisks and Kpler. The vessels, carrying a combined total of 4 million barrels of Saudi crude, were struck within minutes of each other as they traveled outbound through the waterway.
The Sidr, a very large crude carrier flagged by Saudi Arabia, was hit approximately 16.6 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, at around 1952 UTC. Minutes later, the Liberian-flagged VLCC Senegal Prosperity was struck by three unknown projectiles about 17 nautical miles east of Khasab.
Fortunately, all crew members on board both vessels were reported safe following the attacks. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency confirmed that the tanker in question had been struck by at least three projectiles as it sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz.
