Saudi Oil Tankers Attacked in Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Tensions

Two Saudi oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday evening. According to Reuters, the Sidr and Senegal Prosperity were hit by missiles within minutes of each other as they passed through the strait. The incidents represent a further escalation of the threat within the Omani corridor, according to shipping risk management company Marisk.

The tankers, which had loaded 2 million barrels of Saudi crude oil at the Juaima terminal last week, were targeted by shells in separate attacks. All crew members are reported to be safe after the incidents. The UK's Merchant Marine Operations Agency also confirmed that three shells hit a tanker in the same location as it departed the Strait of Hormuz.

The attacks come amid rising tensions between Iran and the US. Iranian media had earlier reported that a Saudi oil tanker had been intercepted while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The latest incidents have caused oil prices to rise, with US President Donald Trump threatening further strikes on Iran following the first exchange of fire since late July.
