Saudi Pipeline Attack Sparks Tensions Over Oil Exports
Saudi Arabia shut down its East-West oil pipeline after it was attacked by drones from Iraq. The pipeline, which spans over 1,200 kilometers (745 miles), had been transporting 4-5 million barrels of crude per day.
The attack occurred in the Riyadh and Medina regions, causing fires and some damage, and injuring several people. Saudi officials pointed to Iraq as the origin of the drone attack, with both countries' officials stating that they would work together to find the source of the incident.
Iraq's government denied any involvement, while the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed they did not target the pipeline. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided not to retaliate immediately at the request of the Iraqi prime minister, reserving the right to take necessary measures to protect its interests.
