Saudi Pipeline Attacked by Drones Originating from Iraq
A key oil pipeline system in Saudi Arabia was struck by projectiles on Thursday, causing extensive fire damage and raising concerns about the kingdom's ability to export its resources.
The attack, which was attributed to drones originating from Iraq, targeted pump stations next to the pipeline itself, according to two US officials familiar with the matter.
Satellite images showed at least six fires burning near the East-West pipeline on Thursday, although it's unclear if sections of the pipeline were damaged.
The strike comes amid a broader Iranian strategy to use its proxies to push Arab nations to reject American forces in the region, according to Behnam Ben Taleblu, Iran program senior director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD).
