Sawgrass LNG Powers Walker's Cay with Cleaner Fuel
Sawgrass LNG & Power has started supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Walker's Cay, a popular sportfishing destination in the northern Bahamas. The fuel replaces diesel as the primary source of power generation for the island.
The project expands Sawgrass' presence in the Bahamas, where it has supplied resorts and industrial customers with LNG for over eight years. The company produces LNG at its liquefaction facility in Miami and delivers it via ISO containers, providing a lower-cost and lower-emission alternative to diesel.
Walker's Cay is undergoing an extensive redevelopment led by philanthropist Carl Allen, who aimed to modernize the island's infrastructure while reducing fuel costs and emissions. The shift from diesel to LNG is expected to achieve significant savings for the island, with customers reportedly achieving 20% to 50% reductions in fuel expenses compared to traditional methods.
The partnership between Sawgrass LNG & Power and Walker's Cay reflects the company's goal of helping businesses and island communities across the Caribbean transition away from diesel. By combining reliable LNG supply with proven logistics and flexible infrastructure, Sawgrass continues to pursue its mission of reducing energy costs and improving long-term sustainability for its customers.
