Scammers Target Coachella Valley Residents as Gold Prices Soar
Gold prices have surged to new heights in recent months, drawing more people into the market and prompting local gold-buying businesses to issue warnings about scams targeting unsuspecting sellers.
The increased demand has led to a flood of customers bringing in old jewelry, coins, and other precious metals for evaluation and sale. Local gold buyers test each item to determine its purity before making an offer based on the current market price.
Valeria Rosenthal with Precious Metals Refinery notes that some customers are using the extra cash generated from selling their gold to help pay bills or fund travel, while others are taking advantage of the high prices to purchase bullion as an investment.
However, experts caution consumers not to rush into a sale without understanding the true value of their items. James Fawcett, owner of J&J Gold Buyers, recommends getting multiple offers and doing research before making a deal.
With gold prices at record highs, scammers are targeting people who may be unfamiliar with the value of precious metals, often using fake or counterfeit items to make victims believe they're getting a good deal. Experts warn consumers to use reputable buyers and compare offers before selling.
