Sempra Infrastructure Delays ECA LNG Phase 1 Completion Amid Refrigerant Compressor Damage
Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, continues to advance several key projects in support of its corporate strategy. One such project is the ECA LNG Phase 1 facility in Ensenada, Mexico, which achieved mechanical completion in December 2025 and began producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) in June 2026.
However, due to damage discovered in the project's refrigerant compressors during planned inspections following the export of its first cargo, the commissioning process has been extended. The project is now expected to reach substantial completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, with sales commencing shortly thereafter.
Meanwhile, construction on Port Arthur LNG Phases 1 and 2 remains on schedule, adding 26 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of new export capacity to Sempra's portfolio. The associated LA Storage project also remains on track.
